State soccer: Raiders outlast Bears in OT | News, Sports, Jobs

Top-seeded Iolani School got a golden goal off the post in the 89th minute on Friday night for a 1-0 overtime win over fourth-seeded Baldwin in the late semifinal of the Motiv8 Foundation/HHSAA Division I Boys Soccer State Championships at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

Baldwin’s Brayden Barbosa was fouled in the penalty box in the 79th minute — Kanata Kuwahara took the penalty kick with 1 minute, 23 seconds to play in regulation, but the shot was stopped by the Iolani goalkeeper Brayden Obrero.

Obrero was credited with seven saves, including a few stellar ones in the first half when the Maui Interscholastic League champion Bears outshot the Raiders 10-2.

Iolani (11-0-2), the defending state champion, will play No. 2-seeded Mililani for the state title tonight at 7 p.m., while the Bears (12-1-1) will play Punahou for third at 3 p.m.

Seabury Hall was in its fourth straight state final four at the Division II level, but the fourth-seeded Spartans lost 3-0 to top-seeded Kamehameha Schools Hawaii on Friday afternoon. William Henderson scored twice and Iopa Quintana once for the Warriors.

The Spartans (9-1-0) will play for third at 3 p.m. today against Pac-5, a 3-1 loser to Island School in the other D-II semifinal.

In a D-I consolation match Friday, King Kekaulike beat Waiakea 2-1 to advance to today’s fifth-place match at 3 p.m.

Lorenzo Gonzalez and Mateus Chauvin scored the goals for Na Alii (11-3-1). King Kekaulike will face Kealakehe, a 4-3 winner over Kalani, for fifth place.
