Tagovailoa is a borderline QB1 worthy of a pick as early as Round 9. The Dolphins QB has shown flashes of the upside we believe exists in him, but never for a full season. Last year he was QB4 through the first eight weeks of the season and QB10 through Week 13. From that point forward he had just one game with more than 240 yards passing and just one game with multiple touchdown passes. That type of letdown in the Fantasy playoffs will surely cause some Fantasy managers to shy away, but he did finish with a league-best 4,624 passing yards and a second year in a row of about eight yards per attempt. With Mike McDaniel, Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle all still in Miami, there is plenty of reason to hope that Tagovailoa maintains his breakout for a full season in 2024.

• Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Multi-year extension gets done

  Tagovailoa and the Dolphins agreed to terms Friday on a four-year, $212.4 million contract extension, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. Tagovailoa and Miami spent much of the offseason wrapped up in negotiations for a long-term extension, and the 2020 first-round pick now gets a multi-year commitment and large payday from the franchise that once selected him fifth overall. While awaiting a new deal, Tagovailoa only practiced partially at training camp, but Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports that he returned as a full participant Friday. Since pairing with head coach Mike McDaniel, Tagovailoa has transformed into one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the NFL and taken full advantage of having stars Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle headlining his wide receiver corps. The 26-year-old is coming off the first full season of his four-year career, a 2023 campaign in which he led the league with 4,624 passing yards while throwing 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, with his 8.3 YPA ranking second in the NFL. The additions of No. 3 receiver Odell Beckham (undisclosed) and TE Jonnu Smith, plus another year of growth in McDaniel's offensive scheme, could provide enough fuel for Tagovailoa to take yet another step forward during the 2024 campaign.

• Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Practice workload limited

  Tagovailoa's practice participation at training camp will be limited amidst ongoing contract negotiations with the Dolphins, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports. Tagovailoa's current activity level at training camp is reminiscent of his participation during spring practices, when attended all of June minicamp but missed some time at OTAs. In Wednesday's practice, he participated fully in individual and 7-on-7 drills but only took two snaps in 11-on-11s. Head coach Mike McDaniel said Tagovailoa's situation is "very fluid," noting that the team is "taking it day by day." This offseason, quarterbacks Jared Goff and Trevor Lawrence both signed massive extensions with their respective franchises. Elsewhere around the NFL, Jordan Love and Dak Prescott are notable quarterbacks also negotiating for new deals. The Dolphins thus have plenty of incentive to get an extension locked in for Tagovailoa quickly, both to get the quarterback back on the field and taking reps as soon as possible, and to avoid having to pay a higher price in an ever-increasing market for signal-callers.

• Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Drops weight, awaits extension

  Coach Mike McDaniel said at OTAs that Tagovailoa, who continues to vie for a contract extension beyond his fifth-year option, has dropped between 10 and 15 pounds this offseason, Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post reports. Tagovailoa has been an on-and-off participant at OTAs for Miami, but McDaniel made clear that his attendance schedule has been a non-issue. The quarterback added weight last offseason in order to protect himself, and coupled with training to reduce impact taken when falling to the ground, that allowed Tagovailoa to play a full 17-game slate for the first time in his NFL career. It appears that the signal-caller is now putting in the work to get more mobile while keeping the traits that have added to his durability, with McDaniel noting that Tagovailoa is looking "svelte." Both sides will continue negotiations on a multi-year extension, though Alain Poupart of SI.com notes the possibility of Tagovailoa playing out the 2024 season on his fifth-year option can't be entirely dismissed.

  Tagovailoa is present for the start of OTAs on Monday, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports. Tagovailoa was recently reported to have missed a notable amount of Miami's offseason work amid ongoing talks about a contract extension, but the 26-year-old quarterback is in the building to kick off the start of OTAs. It appears that both Tagovailoa and the Dolphins' organization are confident that an extension will get done prior to the start of the regular season, so unless things stall on that front there shouldn't be too many concerns about the quarterback's offseason participation. Currently, Tagovailoa is slated to play out the 2024 campaign on his fifth-year option. He played a full 17 regular-season games last year for the first time in his career, achieving new highs with 4,624 passing yards, 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

  Tagovailoa's top wide receivers, Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, will be joined in 2024 by Odell Beckham, who signed a one-year contract with the Dolphins on Wednesday. Miami added offensive tackle Patrick Paul in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft to help Tagovailoa stay upright, a key move following the departure of Robert Hunt to Carolina, but the team's only notable skill-position pickups this offseason were sixth-round wideout Malik Washington and fourth-round running back Jaylen Wright. Adding an experienced veteran in Beckham should finally provide Miami's offense with a reliable third starting wideout, something the team has lacked since head coach Mike McDaniel's arrival in 2022. As Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com notes, beyond the top tandem of Hill and Waddle, no receiver has logged more than 32 catches or 417 yards in the McDaniel era. The arrival of Beckham, and to a lesser degree, tight end Jonnu Smith, promises to finally provide Tagovailoa with more reliable playmakers beyond his top two options.

  Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Tuesday that he "absolutely" wants Tagovailoa to sign a contract extension this offseason, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports. The lefty quarterback is set to play out the 2024 season under the fifth-year option on his rookie contract, after leading the league in yards per attempt in 2022 (8.9) and total passing yards in 2023 (4,624). Tagovailoa hasn't quite progressed to fantasy stardom despite his success, as he doesn't offer much in the way of rushing production, missed four games in 2022 and then saw Miami running backs rush for 27 of the team's 57 offensive touchdowns in 2023. He still has a path to QB1 value -- at least on the low end -- while throwing passes to elite receiving talents in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle in one of the NFL's best-designed offenses. Early reports suggest both the Dolphins and Tagovailoa expect an extension to get done this offseason.

  Tagovailoa completed 20 of 39 passes for 199 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the Dolphins' 26-7 wild-card loss to the Chiefs on Saturday night. He also rushed three times for 25 yards. Tagovailoa came into the game with plenty of questions hanging over him in terms of his ability to thrive in cold weather, and he unfortunately did little to dispel the narrative. The 2020 first-round pick bore little resemblance to the prolific passer he was most of his career-best season, one in which he set new personal bests with 4,624 passing yards, a 69.3 percent completion rate and 29 touchdowns across 17 regular-season games. Tagovailoa also put together five 300-yard efforts, including a 466-yard tally versus the Chargers in Week 1, and he'll now head into a pivotal offseason where a contract extension figures to be of utmost priority, with the final year of his current deal looming in 2024.

  Tagovailoa (quadriceps/shoulder) completed 17 of 27 pass attempts for 173 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's 21-14 loss to the Bills. Tagovailoa started and ended Miami's nine offensive possessions with drive-killing interceptions as the Dolphins slid back into the final wild-card spot while the Bills crowned themselves as AFC East champs. The bulk of Tagovailoa's meager fantasy production came over the course of two methodical touchdown drives in the second quarter. Outside of that, every other offensive drive for the Dolphins ended in either a punt or an interception. Tagovailoa has now thrown four picks over his last two games, matching his total thrown over his previous eight contests combined. The Alabama product finishes the 2023 regular season completing 69 percent of his passes for a league-leading 4,624 passing yards to go along with 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Tagovailoa will attempt to end his recent slump when the Dolphins visit the Chiefs on Saturday for the start of the playoffs.

He only has one game with at least 20 Fantasy points against the Bills in six career meetings, and Buffalo has held four quarterbacks in a row to 17.1 Fantasy points or less, including Patrick Mahomes and Dak Prescott over that span. I don't have high expectations for Tagovailoa in Week 18.

But just in case that's not enough for you, consider that Tagovailoa has been under 18 PPR pts in each of past three games and hasn't had a big Fantasy game since Week 8. And just how good is this Ravens defense against quarterbacks? Only two passers all season (Matthew Stafford and somehow Josh Dobbs) have had more than 18 Fantasy points against them. I'd rather start Jordan Love, Baker Mayfield, Derek Carr and Kyler Murray.

  I didn't like Tagovailoa in Week 15 with his matchup against the Jets, and he scored just 14.9 Fantasy points. He's now been under 15 Fantasy points in three of his past four games. Tyreek Hill (ankle) didn't play against the Jets, but he's expected to return in Week 16 against the Cowboys, which is fantastic in a potential shootout. This isn't an easy matchup since Dallas just held Jalen Hurts and Josh Allen to a combined 26.8 Fantasy points in the past two weeks. But I'll take my chances with Tagovailoa at home, where he's scored at least 20.9 Fantasy points in five of seven starts this season.

• Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa: Modest numbers without Hill in win

  Tagovailoa completed 21 of 24 passes for 224 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's 30-0 win over the Jets. After the Dolphins took advantage of a couple short fields to get a rushing touchdown and a field goal, Tagovailoa helped them extend the lead to 17-0 with a 60-yard touchdown pass to Jaylen Waddle, who accounted for 142 of Tagovailoa's 224 passing yards. While Tagovailoa didn't light up the box score in Tyreek Hill's (ankle) absence, he avoided major mistakes while letting Miami's defense and running game lead the way. The starting quarterback took most of the fourth quarter off after his team built a 30-0 lead. Tagovailoa has thrown only one touchdown over the last two games with Hill banged up, so he'll hope to get his top target back in Week 16 against the Cowboys.

  His best receiver seems to be operating at less than 100 percent, his offensive line is a calamity, and he's facing a Jets defense that held him to 9.8 Fantasy points three weeks ago when both of those first two issues weren't really issues. If that's not enough, the Jets have let up 20-plus Fantasy points to just four QBs all year, and just one (Josh Allen) had more than 23. It figures to be another low-upside matchup for Tagovailoa, who will continue to throw short passes but might be better off handing the ball to his running backs, which he did plenty of times back on Black Friday. I'd rather start quarterbacks in better matchups like Matthew Stafford, Trevor Lawrence, Russell Wilson and Sam Howell.

  Tagovailoa completed 18 of 24 passes for 280 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Dolphins' 45-15 win over the Commanders on Sunday. Tagovailoa and the rest of Miami's front-line players got a chance to take an early seat in the fourth quarter thanks to the expansive lead the fourth-year signal-caller played an integral part in forging. Playing against a Commanders secondary that had been victimized regularly by opposing air attacks, Tagovailoa executed an early aggressive game plan from head coach Mike McDaniel to near perfection, averaging 11.7 yards per attempt while connecting with Tyreek Hill for touchdown passes of 78 and 60 yards in the first and second quarters, respectively. Tagovailoa finished with an elite QB rating of 141.0 for the day, and he's now completed at least 70.0 percent of his passes in three straight games. Tagovailoa and his aerial weapons could be set up for another productive contest in a Week 14 home matchup against the vulnerable Titans secondary on Monday night, Dec. 11.
