2-year-old perishes in Oregon house fire
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Officials say a 2-year-old child died in a fire Sunday afternoon in Roseburg.
Just before 1:30 p.m., Roseburg firefighters arrived at a home on the corner of Walnut and Chestnut, where they found the structure fully engulfed in flames. They immediately began a search for the boy, who was reported to be in a bedroom next to the kitchen.
As the fire was extinguished, a second search began for the boy, but due to the extreme damage, they were unable to locate him.
After crews put the fire out, they began searching through the rubble. After hours of searching, firefighters found the body of a small child under a pile of debris, in what officials say was a storage room at the back of the house.
Officials have been unable to identify the victim, but believe it may be Sirus Delia, 2. They say the family on scene were looking for him, but was unaccounted for after the fire.
At this point officials don't know how many people were in the house, or how the fire started.
The Roseburg Fire Department and Douglas County Fire District 2 are being assisted by several agencies to determine the cause of the fire, including investigators from Oregon State Police, Oregon State Fire Marshall's Office, Roseburg Police Department and the Douglas County Medical Examiner's Office.
Red Cross responded to the scene to assist the family.
